Festival Focus - Wellington Riding 21
Almost have way through the summer season and a busy weekend of festivals, Wellington Riding (22 – 22 July) proved to be an exciting mix of riders. More horses dancing their way to gain their place at the Petplan Equine Area Summer Championship in October. With some competitive classes combinations put their best hooves forward to show off what they can do.

One of the youngest riders of the day achieved two wins with her ride Glenlichd Fair Un Square, Violet Hawkins, only 11-years-old gained the Prelim and Freestyle Bronze title. In a forty strong competition they earned their place at the Championship with 70.76% and 72.41%, retrospectively. This will be their pairs second time at an PetPlan Equine Championship, after attending the Winter version earlier this year, wanting to top their scores, they’re back for another chance at the shash.
After winning the Elementary Bronze at the PetPlan Equine Winter Championships earlier this year, Gill Peckham is back on her ride Hero to gain qualification in the Elementary silver with a score of 74.10%. After taking early retirement last year, she is lucky enough to focus solely on her nine-year-old gelding.
The Oppenheimer’s are off to a great start with Kate winning the Medium and Freestyle Bronze with 71.57% and 71.22% on her ride SOS Sealpoint. Known at home as Moose, the ten-year-old dun mare has praises from Sarah, “It just shows what consistent training, dedication and commitment can achieve…… They have come a long way since their first Prelim.” Alice is very proud of her sister, “Kate has worked really hard with Moose to improve the way of going and I’m so pleased that her hard work has paid off.”
