Festival Focus - Parwood Equestrian 22

The last weekend in January saw two Petplan Equine Area Festivals take place, the first at Parwood Equestrian (27 - 30 January), where riders had their chance at getting a golden ticket to join us at the Petplan Equine Winter Area Festival Championships in April. It was a busy few days with bumper entries in the Prelim and Novice classes at the Guildford venue.

Petplan’s picks!

Our first BD South & East Petplan Equine Winter Area Festival show was hosted at Parwood Equestrian, where Development Officer, Sharon Walker popped along to support riders across four full days of competition.

Hayley Ford, who won the Elementary Bronze at the Summer Area Festival Championships last year on her other horse Crimson Gold, was back in the winners’ circle with MGH Airtime. They won the Elementary Bronze with 70.04%, producing the gelding from Prelim two years ago with her husband James. Known at home as Michael, the eight year old did owners proud, “the clever lad only went with over 70%, we even made two mistakes so to come away with that score anyway we were chuffed.”

Flying the flag for Headmore Stud, Andrea Kirby won the Elementary Silver on Headmore Dramatica with 70.29%. Buying ‘Drama’ from the stud three years, ago the pair have worked hard, coming fourth in 2019 at the National Championships in Prelim Silver and third in Novice Bronze at the Winter Area Festival Championships last year - working at a new level they have been on the podium ever since.

Talking about Andrea, Alice Oppenheimer offers praise, “she works so hard to have her horse; she’s a real grafter and deserves this so much. A very well done, we are super proud.”

After coming over from Denmark to join her parents, Megan Assouline claimed a win on, Stald Lykke’s Black Magic, who is part owned by Megan and her mother. The ten year old Danish Warmblood by De Noir scored 69.75% in the Pris St Georges Silver, after attending various high profile shows in autumn of last year. Her father, Michel who was previously Para Equestrian Dressage Team Coach for eleven years and holds the British Dressage Medal of Honour, was the first to congratulate his daughter.

Talking about her day Megan said, “really pleased that our hard work is starting to pay off and it was well worth the 5am start this morning.” The pair are still new at this level and are working hard together to achieve their full potential.

Hiedi Marcus achieved a fabulous 72.22% score in the Novice Silver on Hawtins Fiorella, this will be the British bred 10 year old mare by Fürstenball’s third time lucky at the Winter Championships. The pair also took part in the 2021 Senior Home International at Vale View, winning the Elementary and team competition.
