Festival Focus - Beacons Equestrian
Our Welsh Petplan Equine Area Festival rounded off a weekend full of events. Beacons Equestrian (23 – 27 July) saw riders put their best hoof forward for the judges to hopefully make their way to the Petplan Equine Summer Area Festival Championships.
Petplan’s picks!
It was a busy weekend for Elizabeth Thomas qualifying two horses Dream Dragon and Cynfelin Rock Star in the Medium Bronze and Elementary Silver. The 17hh grey gelding, Dream Dragon took a break from competing in 2017 but they picked the reins back up two years ago. Regulars at Beacons Equestrian they will be going for the Medium Bronze title in October.
Cynfelin Rock Star made her debut championship appearance last year at the Petplan Equine Winter Area Festival Championships. The Rubin Star x Catherston Dancing Girl mare will be back to contest a title in the Elementary Silver later on in the year.
Topping the podium in the Advanced Medium Silver was Samantha Wood and Bluewood Tornado with 66.79%. The 18 year old mare has been with Sam for six years where they started together at Prelim, quickly making their way through the levels to Elementary within a year.
Vanessa Archer, the Welsh Development Officer congratulated Sam on her achievements and responded, “he is the absolute best and was super today. It was a pleasure to ride him and he was so happy. I am so pleased as he deserves it so much.”
Known at home as Mr Woo the pair train without an arena at home but this has not stopped them from their dreams Sam says, “He is such a star and I can’t believe we get to go to another party!”
Nine year old mare Ekko Dolce Vita, known as Mango had not stepped foot between the white boards until a year ago when she joined Little Mill Equestrian and her rider 20 year old Abigail Williams. Since then they have had a successful run of competitions and had a top ten placing at the Petplan Equine Winter Area Festival Championships earlier this year.
Qualifying for the Novice Bronze they are hoping to add another top ten finish to their record. Tracey, organiser at Little Mill Equestrian took to social media to express how much it means to the team, “so proud of my girl, she has made dressage special for the family. Well done Abi your hard work and dedication is paying off.”
