Festival Focus - The Cabin Equestrian 21

The last festival in Scotland at The Cabin Equestrian (05 – 08 August) saw riders dance it out on their way to qualify for the Petplan Equine Area Summer Championship in October. Showcasing their skills and partnership to impress the judges to give some high scores, plenty of which over 70%.

A very exciting young horse, Late Night won the Freestyle Elementary Silver with an amazing 75.08%, ridden by Jade Whitelaw, they have already had a successful start to this gelding’s career; previously winning the International Young Horse at Myerscough this year. Also taking the win in the Elementary Silver with 71.52%.  
 
Young rider, Abigail Gray is on the up, a previous Scottish D-Squad Youth rider, who has had a very competitive start to her career with her previous pony ‘Rascal,’ winning the Youth Inter-Regionals and third at the Nationals in 2019. This new partnership, which began in March of this year, with her new pony Godrics Campeggio, a twelve-year-old gelding who took the win in the Elementary Bronze with 70.59%.  
Mum, Karen is very proud of her daughter, coming from a non-horsey family she has taken it all in her stride, “She just loves riding and wants to put herself forward for things and we’re happy to support her as long as she loves doing it.” After taking her first riding lesson at 5, she has come such a long way, “We do it because she loves it and she loves her ponies. Everyone at the riding school laughs because she always rides with a smile on her face.” 
 
First time area festival qualifiers, Lizzie Franks and New York III won not only the Freestyle Medium Silver (67.39%) but the Freestyle Advanced Medium Bronze (65.895) too. Her eleven-year-old gelding, whom she has ridden for five years, took a break in 2019 but is back to have a go at the title at the Championships in October.
