Following the latest announcements from the devolved governments this week we can provide members with an update on the key dates for the resumption of organised sport activity in England, Scotland and Wales.

With the resumption of BD competition, riders can now look forward to qualifying for the Elite Equine Associated Championships in the inaugural year of Elite Equine’s sponsorship of British Dressage competition.

Following consultation with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, British Equestrian has released a further update on activity using indoor schools in England.  As a result, British Dressage has no option but to cancel all scheduled competitions for able bodied adult riders until 11 April 2021, although certain exemptions apply for under 18, Para and elite riders.

On the day activity resumed in England and Scotland and BD launched its new brand identity, Chief Executive Jason Brautigam released his quarter one update to reflect on the first three months of 2021 and a look forward to what the summer has instore. 

It is with great sadness that British Dressage has learned of the passing of Olympian and leading trainer Sarah Whitmore who died peacefully on Saturday 27 March at the age of 89.

Today heralds the return of dressage competition in the UK, with the belated start of our summer season, but it also marks the beginning of a new era for British Dressage with the introduction of a new logo and brand identity.

Ahead of the resumption of competitions on Monday 29 March, British Dressage is excited to announce further calendar developments for 2021, with a confirmed date for the rescheduled NAF Five Star Winter Championships and a new international fixture for Wellington in Hampshire.

Just in time for Easter, the British Dressage Young Horse Forum is back for 2021!  Following the positive feedback from members for our first ‘virtual’ National Convention in November, we’re going digital again so you can view this year’s event from the comfort of home, when it suits you, for just £20.  As in previous years, we have a great programme lined up under the guidance of BD Training Director Paul Hayler, who is joined by FEI 5* judge Isobel Wessels and some world class combinations to demonstrate each of the age groups.

The eagerly awaited restart of British Dressage training and competition activity is just over a week away and the team at BDHQ is busy preparing with our venues, organisers and officials for a smooth and safe return to action from Monday 29 March.

The FEI recently announced an extension to the cancellation of international competition in Europe following the EHV-1 outbreak on the continent which has so far claimed the lives of 17 horses. With competition and wider equestrian activities due to get underway in Great Britain from 29 March, British Equestrian is working with the Equine Infectious Diseases Action Group (EIDAG) and the member bodies, including British Dressage, to help mitigate the spread of EHV from Europe.
