Congratulations to the 22 new regional champions and those who earned their NAF Five Star Winter Championship qualification tickets at Myerscough’s Winter Regional Championships held in Lancashire last week (15 – 19 February).

Lancashire’s Jessica Dunn (pictured above) secured three impressive wins and top placings with several horses owned by Jennifer Whittaker of White Hill Stud, where Jessica is based. Riding Lord Lenny, she claimed the Black Country Saddles Advanced Medium and the Nupafeed Advanced Medium Freestyle Gold with scores of 70.65% and 71.99%. Whilst with the promising seven-year-old gelding WHS Funtime Frankie, she took first place in the Equi-Trek Elementary Gold on 73.54%, ahead of Becky Moody and her Don Index-sired six-year-old gelding Don Galahad, who earned 71.62%.

Reflecting on her success Jess said, "I’m beyond thrilled with my horses this week. They have all tried their absolute best, which has resulted in some wins, and that’s always a bonus. Most of all, I’m just happy that our winter of training seems to be paying off!"

George Blackburn and Thomas Graham’s six-year-old gelding Faust V (Franziskus x DiMaggio) achieved the highest score of the competition in the Baileys Novice Freestyle Gold, scoring an outstanding 75.09%, which was awarded by judges Claire Marie, Nick Bigland and Carolyn Lesley Smith. The duo also secured the PDS Saddles Elementary Freestyle Gold regional champion title with the second highest score of the week, a super74.49%. Overwhelmed by his horse’s performance and their success, the Buckinghamshire-based rider took to Facebook to say he was ’lost for words ’ before adding, “He [Faust] has been an absolute legend.”

In the Superflex FEI Intermediate I classes, Greg Sims delivered a stunning performance in the Gold section, where he and Stena Hoerner’s Oldenburg gelding Waverley Fellini (Fürstenball x Sandro Hit) won with a strong score of 71.18%, placing ahead of Sarah Rao and Geniaal (Vivaldi x Wocky) on 69.75%. In the Silver section, Anna Bates and her Johnson-sired mare Gitina claimed the victory, whilst Kate Jones came in second riding Hollywood (by Parco).

Sheffield superstar Becky Moody and Lancelot B.S. (Dreamboy x Lancet) delivered an outstanding performance to claim the Magic FEI Prix St Georges regional champion title on 71.47%. Meanwhile in the Prix St Georges Silver, Emma Woolliscroft took the top spot on 68.33% riding Just Magic BH. The pair also won the Black Country Saddles Advanced Medium Silver with a score of 69.12% and placed second in the Nupafeed Advanced Medium Freestyle Silver. Reflecting on her success, Emma shared her heartfelt gratitude on social media: “A huge thank you to the army of people who help Jeri and I! We wouldn’t be where we are without you.” She also paid tribute to her equine partner, adding, “Jeri, I love you so so much and thank you for being my best friend and the best dancing partner I could wish for.”

With a score of 71.39%, Tracey Smallwood and Digby III (Don Frederic x Rotspon) achieved the highest Silver score of the show in the Baileys Novice Freestyle on Saturday, placing just ahead of Madeleine Lloyd and Chevet Del Boy on 70.28%.

Congratulations to all competitors, especially those who collected NAF Five Star Winter Championships qualification tickets. Thanks go to the team at Myerscough College for hosting a successful Winter Regional Championships show.
