Henriette Andersen and Zackery took the win in the LeMieux Grand Prix at Wellington Premier League Show, which took place earlier this month alongside the CDI and Festival of Para Dressage at the popular Hampshire venue (05 – 11 June 2023).

Partnering her tall and talented 12-year-old gelding, Zackery (Blue Hors Zack x Obelisk) pictured above, bred in the UK by Nicky Golding, Henriette took the competitive class on a score of 71.123%, with UK-based Australian Jayden Brown and Willinga Park Quincy B second (70.254%), and Dylan Deutrom with San Marco completing the top three (69.058%).

Charlotte Dujardin and Hawtins San Floriana, a mare with whom she’s won championship titles at Novice, Elementary and Medium, were winners of Thursday’s Stübben Intermediate II, which took place indoors in Dukes Hall. The British-bred mare having made her Inter II debut just a week prior at Hunters Equestrian in Gloucestershire, showed her class and promise with an elegant and secure performance collecting a number of 9s along the way.

Bred by Judith Davis at Hawtins Stud, and owned by Charlotte herself together with Carl Hester, the San Amour x Florestan 11-year-old was piloted by Charlotte to a winning score of 76.765% from the judges panel consisting of Leanne Wall (H), Kim Ratcliffe (C) and Richard Baldwin (B).

Jess Dunn, who is based at White Hill Stud in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, achieved a brace of wins partnered by Jennifer Whittaker’s Dan It’s Carston, a 10-year-old gelding by the Grand Prix stallion, Durable. The duo opened their show with a win in Tuesday’s Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges, scoring 71.274% before adding to their count with a victory in Friday’s Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I (69.265%).

“Danny continued his winning streak with a win in the PSG and yet another win and second placing in both Inter I tests,” said Jess on social media. Next stop for the duo will be Hartpury CDI where they will contest the Small Tour.

Wednesday’s Saracen Horse Feeds Inter I was claimed in style by Olivia Oakeley with Caroline Bell’s Full House (Florencio I x Full House), pictured above, on 70.049%. The 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding stepped up to the level this year, and Olivia rode the Premier League Inter I as preparation for the horse’s debut CDI, later in the week, when they achieved a top-ten place in the CDI1* Prix St Georges.

“My superstar on his way to 70%+ and another direct qualification to the Nationals, this time at Inter I, at only his second ever go at the level,” said Olivia on social media after their win. “Biggest thank you to the whole team behind the scenes and his wonderful owner Caroline Bell for always believing in us.”

Young horses shine bright
The KBIS Young Dressage Horse and BD International Young Horse classes attracted a wealth of talented future stars to the Wellington stage. Amongst the many impressive horses across all age categories, the highest-scoring contender was the 2022 KBIS Young Horse 4yo Champion, MSJ Viva Dannebrog (Vitalis x Don Schufro). Owned and bred by Emma Blundell of Mount St John Stud, and presented by Amy Woodhead, the exquisite chestnut mare, pictured below, continues to make an impression with her willingness and her balanced and athletic way of going.

MSJ Viva Dannebrog, known to her friends as Vivienne, won the FEI Int. British Young Dressage Horse 5yo class on 82.600%, followed by the FEI Int. British Young Dressage Horse - Finale 5yo, on 87.200%, awarded 9 for trot, 8 for walk, 8.8 for canter, 8.8 for submission and 9 for perspective from judges Isobel Wessels and Clive Halsall.

“Gorgeous Vivienne MSJ Viva Dannebrog – thank you for giving me a beautiful ride at Wellington today,” said Amy on social media.

Congratulations to all the winners and their home teams, and thank you to the team at Wellington for organising a highly successful Premier League competition.
