The Vale View High Profile show (24 – 26 January), sponsored by Kevin Sparrow Photography, delivered a spectacular start to the season, showcasing talent and promising partnerships for the year ahead.

Saturday’s Grand Prix class proved to be one of the weekend’s highlights, featuring exceptional performances from a highly competitive field judged by Pamela Bushell (B), David Trott (C) and Steph Cooper (H). With a margin of less than 0.005%, the contest for the top spot was incredibly close; however, Gloucestershire-based German rider Kathleen Kröncke (pictured above) and the 15-year-old mare Uniteds Maerchen (United x Heraldik) secured the win with an impressive 70.69%. Kathleen moved to the UK five years ago with her husband, Nikolas Kröncke; after having her second child in the spring of last year, she returned to competing in July and certainly seems to have set the bar for 2025. Tom Goode and Richard Jackson’s 10-year-old stallion Furstenrausch PS (Fürstenball x Festrausch) claimed second place with 70.65%, followed by Olympian Fiona Bigwood and her own Daytona Platinum (Dante Weltino x Charon) with a score of 69.82%.

25-year-old Angus Corrie-Deane enjoyed a successful show securing five wins including a victory in Friday’s Intermediate II aboard Mary Corrie’s Jack Johnson (Johnson x Scandic) with a score of 71.81%. The pair also showed promise at Grand Prix level earning 69.25% for their Freestyle, finishing just 0.76% shy of the top three in the Grand Prix on 69.060%. Taking to Facebook to express his pride in the gelding’s progress, Angus said, “He made solid improvements in the Grand Prix from our last high-profile event, even with a few costly mistakes. He’s feeling stronger than ever and I’m beyond excited for what 2025 holds with him!”

Angus also saw success aboard his talented eight-year-old stallion Maigret VD Watermolen (Daily Diamond x Johnson), taking the top spot in Saturday’s and Sunday’s Medium Gold on 69.24% and 71.17%, as well as Sunday’s Advanced Medium Gold on 70.86%. “His kind soul and incredible temperament have me totally smitten. I’ve only had him for a short time, but the bond we share is truly special,” said Angus, praising the stallion and reflecting on the growth in their partnership.

Two West Sussex-based riders also delivered multiple victories. Andrew Gould and his 11-year-old stallion Active Solaris (Sezuan x Fidermark) won Friday’s and Saturday’s Intermediate I Gold classes with two consistently strong performances, which were rewarded with scores of 71.57% and 71.23%. Meanwhile, Sarah Millis enjoyed three notable victories, including an impressive performance in Sunday’s Prix St Georges Gold, where she achieved her highest score of the competition, 72.11%, aboard her own nine-year-old Le Zorro (Hero x Florencio I).

The youth classes over the weekend highlighted the next generation of dressage talent, with the competition’s highest score of 73.85% being awarded to Lillian Waller McSweeney (14) and Willinga Park Sky Diamond (Sir Donnerhall x Don Schufro) for their exceptional Children on Horses Team test performance. Lillian’s exciting new partner Willinga Park Sky Diamond is the former rider of Australian team star Jayden Brown. Meanwhile, also topping 70%, Ruby Hughes (17) continued to see success at the Junior level aboard Claire Wyatt’s eight-year-old stallion Fire Kracka. After their double victory at Arena UK High Profile in December, the duo secured a win in the Team test with a score of 70.25% and narrowly missed first place in the Individual test. Ruby expressed her pride on Instagram, saying, “So unbelievably proud of Kracka who stayed with me within the test, putting his trust in me. With many highlights, yet lots to work on.”

Sunday’s para dressage classes concluded the week with plenty of promise and positive results. Among the top scorers was Alice Begg, who claimed victory in the Grade 5 Grand Prix Freestyle Gold aboard her 10-year-old mare Kiolita, scoring 71.39% to place just ahead of her second ride mare Nalique (Ferdeaux x Serano Gold), who earned 71.25%. Alice and Nalique also excelled in the Grade 5 Grand Prix Gold, taking first place on 69.15%.

Well done to all the riders, horses, owners, grooms and everyone taking part. Thanks go to the team at Vale View for hosting a successful BD High Profile Show and setting the tone for an exciting 2025 season.
