The opening High Profile Show fixture in the 2023 BD calendar takes place this week at Vale View Equestrian in Leicestershire (13 – 15 January 2023), featuring three days of action brought live to subscribers by Horse & Country. The first major domestic fixture of the year, it has attracted top riders from across the UK.

Friday’s feature classes, in the International Arena and available to watch on H&C+, are the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges sponsored by Kevin Sparrow Photography (starting at 09:00), the Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I sponsored by Nag Essentials (from 13:22) and the Stübben Intermediate II sponsored by Oakham Veterinary Hospital (from 16:45). Amongst a wealth of promising combinations, Tom Goode rides Richard Jackson’s eight-year-old gelding, Fürstenrausch PS (by Fürstenball) in the PSG, the on form duo of Gemma Owen and Sirius Black III start in the Intermediate I, and Darren Hicks will contest the Intermediate II with Kathleen Kröncke’s Hampton Court 2.

Saturday features a strong contingent of Youth riders starting their 2023 campaigns. Pony riders, Children on Horses, Juniors and Young Riders each ride their respective Team Test in the National Arena from 08:07, 09:35, 12:30 and 15:05 respectively.

A Saturday highlight is the 20-strong LeMieux Grand Prix sponsored by Horse & Country, starting at 17:00. Reigning World Championship team silver medallist Gareth Hughes rides his own, wife Rebecca and Julia Hornig’s Classic Goldstrike (Tango x Krack C) in the gelding’s third Grand Prix start. Tom Goode rides Samantha Geddes’ Dior III – winner at the recent Arena UK High Profile Show, and Sarah Millis will be making the journey to Vale View with her up-and-coming ride, the 10-year-old Impressive VDC (Charmeur x Krack C). Becky Moody partners 13-year-old mare Famke PF (Houston x Cabachon), Fenella Quinn makes her debut aboard Hawtins Delicato (Diamond Hit x Regazzoni) – a horse who needs no introduction, while Daniel Watson, Alice Oppenheimer and Fiona Bigwood each bring two rides forward for this headline class.

The three-day show continues Sunday with the U25 Grand Prix, the U21s’ Individual tests, a Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges class, sponsored by Highcross Horseboxes, and freestyle classes at Medium and PSG.
