The first Premier League of the season is underway at Myerscough College in Lancashire, featuring an exciting schedule of action from Grand Prix to young horse and youth classes across the week (11 – 16 March).

The competition kicks off on Tuesday with the Medium and Advanced Medium classes. Fresh from her multiple successes across the Winter Regional Championships, Jess Dunn will be the first to head down the centre line riding Jennifer Whittaker’s promising seven-year-old gelding Funtime Frankie. The Young Pony and International Young Horse classes also commence and continue into Wednesday.

On Thursday the first of the Small Tour classes takes place, with combinations such as Darren Hicks and Diana Rose’s Sir Robinson (by Sir Donnerhall I) and Tom Goode and Caroline Rake’s rising star Margot (Morricone x Totilas), as well as Jessica Dunn and Amy Woodhead being among those to look out for.

Coming off an outstanding victory at Myerscough High Profile a week ago, Cheshire’s Sarah Higgins will return to the venue as the first down the centre line on Friday aboard Sarah Rao’s Vivaldi-sired gelding Geniaal for the second set of Prix St Georges and Intermediate I classes. The youth classes will follow and run across the weekend, showcasing a number of future stars to watch out for.

Saturday’s highlights will see a series of Freestyle classes across the levels, including the Grand Prix Freestyle which commences at 9.10pm with Darren Hicks and Tramontana Tiger Feet (Grey Flanell x Hotlinetaking) taking to the floor. The rest of the evening’s lineup includes performances from Lara Edwards, Matt Frost, Sarah Rao and Bobby Hayler.

The Grand Prix on Sunday concludes the event on a high as top names vie for early-season success from 10.30am. With a start list of 23, this headline class features a host of exciting partnerships to look out for, including Olympian Becky Moody and Jo Cooper’s 11-year-old KWPN stallion James Bond II (Desperado NOP x Fidertanz), the 2024 LeMieux National Intermediate II Champions Sadie Smith and Swanmore Dantina, and Gloucestershire’s Matt Frost who will be piloting his new ride, Atterupgaards Berlucchi (by Belissimo M) owned by Angela Ellis-Dunn through their first Grand Prix together.

Myerscough’s Premier League promises to deliver top-class competition so stay tuned for results and highlights throughout the week.
