New rules around the importation of horses from the EU are due to come into force in October 2024. We want to ensure that Government hears your views so that the rules can balance biosecurity, welfare, trade, and practicalities appropriately.

New rules around the importation of horses from the EU are due to come into force in October 2024. The British Horse Council (BHC) would like to hear your views to make sure that they balance biosecurity, welfare, trade, and practicalities. The new rules will mean changes in the procedures for crossing borders with live animals, including horses, from the EU to GB. For many consignments, this will mean stops and checks at Border Control Posts, as well as fees.

The British Horse Council (BHC) survey will take around 10 mins to complete, with the results being used to help Government develop suitable processes for the implementation of the rules.  The survey considers journeys made by road, rail and ferry, it does not include those made by air.
