Discover dressage through the eye of the judge this spring with the National Judges Convention, supported by the BDSC. Taking place on Tuesday 14 April at Addington Equestrian, Buckinghamshire, this popular event is a must for all BD members, from judges and coaches to riders and supporters!

The hosts

This year we’ll be joined by FEI 5* judge Stephen Clarke and world-renowned coach and rider Ferdi Eilberg, the popular duo are back for 2020 following an inspiring event at Bishop Burton College in 2018.

Stephen Clarke needs no introduction, with five national championship titles to his name and a reserve team position for the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, his career from the saddle to the judge’s box has been admirable. Stephen acted as President of the Ground Jury at the London 2012 Olympia Games and has been on the panels for countless European Championships, European Youth Championships, World Equestrian Games, Olympic Games and World Cup Finals. His judging and training inspire a positive, open and modern approach to equestrian sport, and he continues to be the driving force behind the next generation of judges, with many a product of his training and encouragement.

After beginning his dressage career in Germany under the watchful eyes of multiple Olympic Gold medallist Reiner Klimke, Ferdi Eilberg became an instrumental member of Team GB for many years as he rode to team silver at 1993 European Championships, earned a spot at 1998 World Games in Rome and was shortlisted for the 1996 Olympics. Away from the competition arena, Ferdi shaped his impressive reputation as dressage trainer to the British eventing team from 1982 to 1992, Director of Coaching for BD and successful Performance Manager in the early noughties. Ferdi continues to have a strong influence as a coach from his idyllic Worcestershire base, and is succeeded by his talented children Maria and Michael, both popular figures and Team GBR senior stars in their own right.
