With the 2023 instalment of the KBIS Young Dressage Horse series due to launch at Myerscough Premier League next month, we’re excited to unveil the new BD National Test for seven year olds, as well as the venues and dates for the upcoming qualifiers.
Having run for over 20 years, the KBIS Young Dressage Horse and Pony Championships is set to extend its continued success and popularity as qualifiers get underway in a matter of weeks across the country. With a focus on the health, happiness and longevity of the equine athlete, the series offers breeders, owners and young horse producers a welcoming pathway to introduce young horses and ponies to the dressage arena.
With the seven year old age category included under the KBIS Young Horse Championships banner for the first time in 2022, we’re excited to build on its success with the launch of the new BD National Test for Seven Year Olds. Following the dedicated development work of the BD Test Committee, the new age group test is designed to offer seven year old horses the chance to showcase age-appropriate scales of training within an Advanced Medium level route. The new National Test for Seven Year Olds will replace BD Advanced Medium 96 at all stages of the KBIS Young Horse Championships process, ridden and judged as for a standard BD test and competition. Judges will use the test sheet alongside the quality sheet to assess the performance and potential of young horses en route to championship qualification.
The 2023 KBIS Young Horse Championship includes classes for horses across four total age groups, those foaled in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, as well as ponies aged four, five and six. Find a list of all qualifiers below, where successful young horses go through to the semi finals whilst young ponies qualify direct to their championship hosted at Hartpury Festival of Dressage in July.
