Renowned UK based insurance provider KBIS British Equestrian Insurance will deliver British Dressage’s business and member insurance from 1 July 2021. Following a thorough and open tender process that involved four leading providers, KBIS won the contract by presenting a comprehensive and innovative solution to BD’s insurance requirements.
As long-term supporters of the Winter Prelim Championships and sponsors of dressage names such as Charlotte Dujardin, Charlotte Cundall and Lindsay Wilcox-Reid, KBIS will be a well-known name to many in the sport. Under the ownership of Guy and Liz Prest since 1991, Specialist Risk Group acquired the business in 2020, with Guy still managing the company on a day-to-day basis. As the UK’s largest independent equine insurance provider, they offer a range of products tailored to the equestrian sector, including cover for horse, property, horseboxes and trailers and businesses.
KBIS Managing Director Guy Prest said; "KBIS has thoroughly enjoyed our long association with British Dressage and we are delighted to become their insurance partner. We look forward to working closely with BD to develop the best insurance solutions for the organisation and its members."
The contract was awarded to KBIS based on a full review of our current insurance provision and the creative range of options proposed to take BD’s insurance cover to the next level, both for the business and for our members, who receive public liability and personal accident cover as part of their membership subscription.
BD members won’t see any immediate change in their cover and will continue to enjoy the same benefits previously provided by Shearwater Insurance. Over the next six months, BD will work with KBIS to investigate and evaluate alternative proposals, including the potential to introduce additional packages to support our coaching network.
Shearwater Insurance remain a valued sponsor of British Dressage and will continue their support of the British Young Horse Championships, which have been in place for over 20 years, until at least the end of October 2021.
Jason Brautigam, British Dressage Chief Executive commented; “Guy Prest and the team at KBIS impressed us all with their approach to the tender process and proposals. As experienced equestrian insurance providers who know the industry well, they’re well placed to cover our requirements, but it was their look to the future that was the key difference. We’ll work closely with KBIS to ensure that there’s a seamless transition and start to plan ahead for a new approach to the coverage members receive, as well as safeguarding our organisation.
“We would like to thank Jeremy Lawton and Shearwater for all of their support and commitment to BD over the past two decades, as both our insurance providers and valued sponsor. It has always been a pleasure to work with them and their loyalty and dedication to the sport has been unwavering. We’re immensely grateful for everything they have done for British Dressage and our members, so on behalf of the BD Board of Directors we wish Jeremy and the team all the best for the future.”
