The Myerscough College High Profile delivered a weekend of outstanding dressage in Lancashire (28 February – 2 March). Becky Moody claimed the Grand Prix honours, whilst Jessica Dunn and Sarah Higgins were amongst the peak performers.
Sunday’s Grand Prix Gold class saw an impressive victory for Becky Moody (pictured above) and Jo Cooper’s 11-year-old KWPN stallion James Bond II (Desperado NOP x Fidertanz). The pair’s strong performance was rewarded with a score of 69.78% by judges Sandy Phillips (C), Jane Critchley (E), and Andrea Smith (M). Sarah Higgins and Samuel IV secured second, whilst Susan Dunlop and Dancer RV completed the podium.
Adding to her Grand Prix runner-up title, Sarah took home three wins across the Intermediate and Prix St Georges levels. The Cheshire-based rider's top score of 73.58% was awarded for her stunning Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I Gold performance aboard Sarah Rao’s Vivaldi-sired gelding Geniaal, making them the highest scorers of the show. Sarah also took first place in the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges Gold with the same horse, on 71.91%, before claiming the Stübben Intermediate II Gold crown aboard Samuel IV.
“A great show to start the season; Mufasa was his usual wonderful self, winning the PSG and Intermediate I and Simba is growing in confidence all the time,” said Sarah, taking to social media to praise her horses' performance. “Still now, I can’t believe I get to ride horses of this quality.”
Another treble win came courtesy of Jess Dunn, who was on fine form following a successful Winter Regional Championships at the venue a few weeks earlier. Jennifer Whittaker’s exciting seven-year-old gelding WHS Funtime Frankie continued to show promise, delivering two outstanding victories in the HorseLight Elementary Gold and TopSpec Medium Gold on 73.57% and 70.70%, respectively. Jess, who is based at White Hill Stud in Lancashire, added to her success in the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges Gold, where she piloted the 13-year-old KWPN gelding Hokita (Dreamboy x Havidoff) to first place on 67.65%.
In the Silver ranks, Hayley Colwell and Claire Shuttleworth’s promising six-year-old stallion Magnetic (Millenium x Donnerhall) were standout competitors. Showcasing the hallmarks needed for a bright future, the young stallion posted the highest Silver score across the competition, earning 71.97% for his performance in Friday’s HorseLight Elementary.
Sue Carson and her own SCS Lumiere KH also made their mark, winning two from two in the Bret Willson Advanced Medium Gold classes, as well as topping the Prix St Georges Silver class on Friday too. Praising the nine-year-old gelding, the Derbyshire-based rider posted on Facebook: “We couldn't be more pleased with how he has performed. The work we have been focusing on in training is really starting to show in the arena, with lots more to come.”
Worcestershire’s Kate Cowell featured multiple times in the top three across the Small Tour classes with her two rides, including a victory in Saturday’s Intermediate I Gold on 69.11% with Final Reign 106 (Fursten-Look x Lanciano). Meanwhile, Charlotte Lutener also delivered multiple top placings, concluding with a victory in the Stübben Intermediate II Gold aboard AB Barroco (Belissimo x Mona-Lisa) with a score of 67.06%.
Congratulations to all the competitors and their supporters and thanks to the team at Myerscough College, judges, writers, stewards and volunteers for making it such a successful show.
