Sustainability consultants and equine specialists White Griffin have unveiled the first nationwide carbon calculator designed specifically for equine businesses.
Following the release of the British Dressage and British Showjumping Sustainability Strategy in December 2023, we’re delighted to share an exciting development in measuring your carbon footprint, with the release of a tool that will be vital in helping us understand and reduce emissions in the equestrian industry.
At the National Equine Forum 2024, Environmental sustainability consultants White Griffin today announced the first nationwide carbon footprint calculator developed specifically for equestrians and equine businesses. Pioneered by White Griffin and the Farm Carbon Toolkit, in partnership with Derby College Group, Hartpury University and Sparsholt Group, the calculator has been developed to empower equine businesses and horse owners to better understand their environmental impact and take meaningful steps to mitigate it.
Carbon footprint tools are widely used in the agricultural sector and are vital in supporting government carbon reduction targets. Until now, no such tools have been available at scale for equestrian premises and properties. The Equine Carbon Calculator will provide data and insights that will allow us to make informed decisions for a sustainable future and find cost-effective, innovative solutions to reduce our carbon footprint.
At British Dressage, we’re committed to our pledges outlined in the joint sustainability strategy, developed in collaboration with British Showjumping, and we will be encouraging the use of the equine carbon calculator with all our stakeholders. This is where you can play your part: if you’re a venue, organiser, yard owner or manager, or a member with an interest in measuring your impact, click the button below to save and use the calculator.
Share your sustainability story
To reach our sustainability goals, the sharing of information will play a key part in our success. If you’re actively taking steps to reduce your carbon footprint and support the regeneration of our planet, we want to hear your stories. By showcasing examples of best practice, we hope to encourage more dressage riders to join us on our journey to a more sustainable future.
