Multiple winners were the order of the week at Myerscough College Winter Regional Championships in Lancashire (18 – 24 February 2019).
First up, World Class Podium Potential rider Becky Moody was on very good form throughout the competition winning an incredible four regional titles over the seven days.
With the baby of her team, five-year-old KWPN licensed stallion James Bond 2 (Desperado x Fidertanz) - pictured, Becky received the highest non-freestyle score – 75.74% - to win the Blue Chip Novice Gold. Owned by Jo Cooper, ‘Q’ as he’s known, moved to Becky’s stable in November 2017 and is an exciting prospect for his rider. “This young stallion really is an absolute babe - so talented and just a joy to work with,” said Becky on Moody Dressage Facebook.
Becky shone at the FEI levels too, winning the Magic Prix St Georges with Lucy Swinden’s 11-year-old tobiano gelding Odwig’s Echo (by Stanhopes Odwig) on a score of 69.21%, and coming close second to Nathalie Kayal and DHI Cleverboy in the Superflex Inter I. Odwig’s Echo, who is amusingly dubbed the ‘the cow pony’ by Team Moody due to his colouring, is homebred by Lucy and sired by her Junior/Young Rider horse Stanhopes Odwig out of Spirit of Summer who Lucy rode to Advanced Medium. The following day, with owner Lucy at the reins, Odwig’s Echo also claimed the Charles Owen Advanced Medium Silver with a plus-70% performance.
Becky’s success continued through the week with Heavenly Kiss BS (Fürst Kiss x Don Schufro), the imposing seven-year-old gelding who she co-owns with Julie Lockey. The 2017 Blue Chip Novice Gold Champions won both the TheraPlate UK Medium Gold and the Charles Owen Advanced Medium Gold with scores of 72.57% and 70.39% respectively. Becky has known the 18hh gentle giant, who’s known at home as ‘Hectorsaurus’, since he was a foal and has produced him since a three-year-old.
Springfern Sporthorses’ Martin Schleicher, who was second to Becky in the Novice Gold, claimed two further tickets for the NAF Five Star Winter Championships, and both in competitive freestyles – the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Freestyle Gold with John Minion’s seven-year-old gelding Faszination I (By Foundation) and the Suregrow Elementary Freestyle Gold with Pippa Geddes’ Tom Cruz, a Breitling W-sired 14-year-old.
Sealing two victories for the younger generation, eighteen-year-old Charlotte Lutener from West Yorkshire won both the Equi-Trek Elementary Silver section 1 (71.77%) and the TheraPlate UK Medium Silver (70.68%) with AB Barroco, her Belissimo M-sired nine-year-old.
“Winter Championships here we come,” said Charlotte on Charlotte Lutener Dressageafter her first victory. “I am absolutely over the moon with my beautiful Bertie [Ab Barroco] winning the Medium Silver Regional Championships this afternoon on 70.68%! Bertie gave me such an amazing feeling in the test, we gave it our all and went for everything! A massive thank you to my trainer Jessica Dunn for being an endless support and a key part of our success!”
British Dressage thanks Myerscough College, the Winter Championships class sponsors and all involved for a successful Regional Championships. Congratulations to all qualified combinations and to everyone who took part.
