BD Abroad: Deauville CDI

A strong contingent of riders headed abroad last week to represent Great Britain at the popular CDI Deauville, France (19 – 22 June 2018).

Maria Eilberg earned Britain’s sole victories of the show with a double of wins in the Medium tour competition with her own, Hermione Black and Penny Pollards’ Royal Concert. The stunning grey gelding by Royal Diamond has come into his own at the level and showed his talent with Maria in the saddle to earn two great scores of 72.54% and 71.45%.

The success for team Eilberg continued in the Grand Prix as Michael Eilberg finished best of the Brits with his faithful dancing partner Marakov. The star horse demonstrated his experience and skill once again to earn third place in the Grand Prix with 70.54%, before moving up a place into second in the Grand Prix Special with another brilliant score of 70.78%. Speaking about their ace results on Facebook Eilberg Dressage praised Marakov for “strutting his stuff in the special, in no way shape or form looking 18-years-old.”

Also faring well in the Grand Prix class were leading ladies Louise Bell and Henriette Andersen. Henriette and her own 13-year-old Flavio (Florencio x Glueckspliz) earned a top ten finish with 69.56% for seventh place. Whilst Louise and her eye-catching ride Into the Blue improved on their 67.21% Grand Prix test to score a fabulous 70.90% in the Grand prix Kur to Music leaving them in sixth place.

The youngsters enjoyed a valuable experience overseas with four riders attending their first international show on the continent. Lily Laughton improved on her placings throughout the week with Maddy Whelan’s Ode to Shannon, her best result came in the Freestyle competition were the duo earned a third place rosette for their 68.54% test.

Three Juniors travelled to Deauville and also built momentum throughout their debut week. 17-year-old Megan Assouline enjoyed two top three placings with plus 70% scores aboard Mette Assouline’s Ramanda EG; whilst Charlotte Snape was hot on her heels finishing just one place behind in the Junior Freestyle to Music with a score of 70.25% with her own Camelot III.

In the Young Rider competitions, former Pony team medallist Rebecca Bell took home a trio of second place spoils with her mother Caroline’s Nibeley Union Hit. Rebecca and ‘Una’ scored 67.74%, 67.45% and 71.37% for their three consistent tests.
