2024 Membership Pricing Review

As part of the annual budgeting process, British Dressage can confirm the membership prices for 2025, ahead of the new calendar year and competition season.  

Ensuring that membership offers value for money remains one of our priorities at British Dressage, and we appreciate the financial pressures that everyone has faced in recent years. Since the pandemic we have remained committed to helping members during the cost-of-living crisis, with a three-year price freeze from 2021 to 2023. 

We have been able to maintain prices at below-inflationary levels due to the strong membership growth during this period. However, this also comes with increased operational overheads, as we strive to provide a high-quality service and a wide range of competition and training opportunities for members.  For example, the cost of insurance cover, which is included in the price of membership, has increased by over 46% in the last three years. 

The exceptional changes to employer National Insurance contributions announced by the government last month will also place additional financial demands on businesses. This alone amounts to approximately £2 per member. As a result of these wider economic factors, we will have to increase our membership and horse registration prices for next year.  The new rates remain significantly lower than the compound inflation rate over the past three years, which would otherwise have equated to an increase of £20 to £115 for a full competing membership. 

In summary, the following price increases will apply from 1 January 2025: 

Full (competing) and horse registration 

• Full (competing) Member subscription will increase by £4 to £102 per year. 
• For members who pay monthly the price will increase by £6 to £111 per year.  At just £9.25 per month, this works out at just 50p per month extra on 2024 prices. 
• Horse registration prices will also increase by £3 per year to £85 per year, or £7.50 if paid monthly. 
• The Full (competing) package for a single horse and rider will therefore cost £187 per annum, an extra £7 combined, representing an overall price increase of 3.9%. 

Full (non-competing) membership 

• Full (non-competing) membership will increase by £2.50 to £65 per year, or £5.50 if paid monthly. 

Club membership and horse registration 

• Club membership will increase by £2 to £40 per year, while Club horse registration prices will increase by £3 to £20 per year. 
• A Club package for a single horse and rider will therefore cost £60 per annum, an extra £5 combined. 

These price increases will help to ensure that we can continue to enhance the membership experience, by building on our training and education activities, delivering greater support at all levels of the sport, developing the range of services we offer, and providing access to competition and championship opportunities for all.  

Paid membership with us includes both Personal Public Liability and Personal Accident Cover from our insurance partners KBIS, whilst there’s also the added member benefit of 10% discount on Horsebox, Liability and Property insurance. Legal support is provided by Rothera Bray, with up to 30 minutes of free legal advice from a fully qualified expert equine solicitor and access to legal advice offered for any other legal matter. 

Members have access to over 2,500 days of affiliated dressage competition, across 175 venues around the country. Our competition structure is more inclusive than ever, with our team delivering year-round championship opportunities for riders and horses of all levels, supported by our network of BD officials. The BD regions offer extensive training activities, delivered by qualified professionals, whilst we also continue to develop the range of educational support offered to members both online and in person. 

Other membership benefits include: 

• 15% discount on an annual H&C+ membership, or 20% off an annual H&C+ Gold membership, courtesy of our live streaming partners Horse & Country. 
• 10% discount for all classifieds advertising with HorseQuest. 
• 10% discount on digital tracking equipment from Pivo. 
• Plus, more partner discounts are due to be added in 2025.

BD Youth riders aged 16 and under will continue to benefit from a 20% discount on all annual membership fees, with this being applied at the point of joining.
