Following an exciting Foundation Academy season at the end of 2022, 12 National Academy Athletes have been selected to be part of the 2023 National Academy, funded by Sport England. All athletes at the Foundation Academies demonstrated hard work and determination in their training and development both at the camps and at home between camps.

These 12 selected National Academy athletes have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to their own development in all areas, from ridden training to strength and conditioning, profiling and performance planning.

Congratulations goes to the following 12 National Academy athletes for 2023 (in alphabetical order by athlete surname):

Tegan Ball (S&W)
Fran Cawley (Wales)
Emily Clarke-Attwood (N&E)
Molly Esberger-Shepherd (N&E)

Morgan Haerr (Wales)
Emma Horgan (S&E)
Lois Hughes (N&W)
Sophie Hunt (S&W)

These 12 athletes will receive a nine-month programme of support and training, fully-funded by Sport England. The programme will cover a wide range of training activities and opportunities, to further the knowledge and skills of young athletes who are demonstrating the potential to have a successful and sustainable future in equestrian sport.

A holistic programme of both mounted and unmounted training will support the development of both the human and equine athlete to sustain their future in the sport as well as supporting improvements in the competition arena. Sessions with coaches and a wide range of guest speakers will continue to build on the initial training delivered on the Foundation Academy programme in Autumn/Winter 2022.

National Academy athletes are selected from the pool of Foundation Academy athletes annually. If you are interested in becoming part of the BD Youth Foundation Academy, developing your knowledge and skills for training and performance, and aiming for selection onto the National Academy in future, keep an eye out for applications opening in Spring.
