Caroline Paterson
Chairman
Caroline started her working life in the fast moving supply sector with two global brands, FedEx UK and McDonald’s. A decade was spent with the fast food giant working her way up the position of Field Marketing Executive before moving on to FedEx as General Manager at the Leicester depot. In 2009, she took the decision to retrain and follow her passion for equestrianism. She’s now a full time coach and holder of her UKCC Level 2 qualification as well as a BD list 3a judge. Caroline has been an active member of the Scotland region committee since 2018, first joining us in the position of judges representative.
Linda Thomson
Senior Training Representative
Linda is passionate about dressage having competed to Inter I including at Nationals and Premier League. Linda became a riding school instructor when leaving school at 16 and is now a freelance dressage trainer.
Gillian Peters
Judges Representative
Gillian is a Chartered Accountant, teaching at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Gillian is a List 1 judge and has been judging throughout Scotland for over 25 years. As an active committee member of Gordon Dressage Group, Gillian as previously held the roles of Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.
Emma Douglas
Para Representative
Emma has a wealth of experience, having started her para dressage journey in 2010 where she qualified for the Para Summer Championships at Hickstead and was selected for her first international as a young rider and won the under 25s.
She was a part of the first Scottish Para Dressage team to head to the Home Nations as well as on the BEF Excel Programme before being selected onto the World Class Programme. Emma represented GB at 3* level. In 2016, she was given the incredible opportunity to travel to Rio Paralympics with Paralympics GB as part of the Paralympic Inspiration Programme.
Sarah Mclean
Senior Training Representative
Sarah grew up in Southeast Asia, so she didn't follow the conventional Pony Club route. She moved to Scotland in 1994 to study Modern Politics at Edinburgh University, where she spent five years. Now, she lives in the Scottish Borders and works as a Company Director in Edinburgh.
Sarah is a BD List 6 judge and holds a UKCC2 coaching qualification. She has been an active member of BD Scotland for the past 15 years, representing Team Scotland at the Senior Home Nations on three occasions. Sarah currently owns three Friesians.
Kate Miller
Marketing Representative
From the age of five, when Kate got her first pony, she immersed herself in the world of equestrianism, progressing through Pony Club and exploring various disciplines. While she initially gravitated towards show jumping, her true passion eventually led her to dressage. In addition to her riding accomplishments, Kate holds her UKCC Level 1 qualification. Alongside her equestrian pursuits, she is currently a student at the University of Glasgow, where she is studying Product Design Engineering.
Chloe Balfour
Marketing Representative
Chloe is currently in her final year of university. This dual commitment reflects her drive and determination both in the arena and in her studies. Chloe is an enthusiastic and dedicated dressage rider who has been competing with British Dressage since the end of 2021. With a deep passion for the sport, Chloe is currently competing at Elementary level and has represented Scotland 4 times since 2023.
