FEI Pony Measuring Certificate

From 1 January 2023, the FEI is introducing the requirement for all ponies in international competitions to have an FEI Measuring Certificate in their FEI passport.

There are three routes for ponies to be measured and awarded a certificate:

Route A Route B Route C
My pony has competed at the FEI Pony European Championships, or been officially measured at a CDI, in the years 2017, 18 or 19. My pony is registered with the FEI (before 31 December 2019) but has not been officially measured. I am registering my pony with the FEI for the first time (from 01 January 2020)
Your pony has been granted acquired rights by the FEI for his/her lifetime. Your pony can compete during the transition period of 01 January 2020 to 31 December 2022. If they compete at a Pony Europeans, Trophy or Nations Cup Final, they will be measured using the height allowance of 150/151cns. Following this, they will be granted acquired rights dependant on their age.

If they do not compete at any of the above, they have the option to be measured at the British Equestrian Measuring Station (details to come). You are required to do this to compete in FEI pony classes after the transition period. All pony owners are encouraged to get this process completed ahead of your next FEI competition if not already in place.
All new pony registrations from 01 January 2020 must be measured at the British Equestrian Measuring Station and measure in using the regulatory height on 148cm/149cm with shoes before they compete.
  • The certificate will need to be in place before you compete.
  • A lifetime certificate will only be given if the pony is eight years old or older. Ponies aged six or seven will be given a certificate valid for 15 months so will need to be remeasured for a life certificate.
  • If a Pony measures out, it is blocked from entering in any FEI Pony Competition and registered as a horse if required. It can be re-measured once the same year at another measuring session, and once a year in the two following consecutive years. In total it may be measured four times in three consecutive years.
