Quest: Gwen Howells
We spoke to Gwen about her first pony Snow and their Saracen Horse Feeds Quest National Championship journey!
Young rider, Gwen and her first pony Snow made it all the way to the Saracen Horse Feeds Quest National Championships. Snow who is an 8 year old 12.3hh pony, who loves a polo mint after her training sessions but also a banana! Gwen has been riding since the age of 4 but Snow is her first pony.
Her Mum, Hayley talks about their journey into BD," They started lessons with Nina after meeting her at a BD Youth squadding assessment, and they just love their lessons with her. Outside of riding she studies at a all welsh language high school and in the future would love to become an equestrian instructor."
It was the pairs first stay away show and they took full advantage of the experience, "Nationals was Gwen and Snows' first time away for more than 1 night and Gwen loved dressing the stables up and spending time with her team mates and making new friends."
They came together in 2019 says Hayley, "just before covid hit, Snow came from a field with just a small hacking background. Gwen has always loved dressage and was determined to do some with Snow. After many lessons and commitment they went out competing in 2020 locally and ended up winning championships. She then decided to join BD Youth and BD Quest."
Talking about the big day, "They placed as individuals at the Regionals and also the team 'It's A Bling Thing' came in first. At the end of October this year they headed to Bury farm for Nationals and thoroughly enjoyed their 5 days, the team placing 6th……. always believe in your dreams!"
Gwen has now unfortunately outgrown Snow and is now looking for forward to start competing with her new pony Bobbin.
