British riders who recently competed on mainland Europe showed promising results at both Tolbert CDI in the Netherlands (11 – 14 April 2024) and Sint-Truiden CDI in Belgium (03 – 07 April 2024).
Tolbert CDI
Annabella Pidgley (19) and Gio, owned by Sarah Pidgley, impressed to achieve a podium spot in the CDI3* Grand Prix at Tolbert when scoring 72.674% for third place amongst a high-class field of starters. The capable partnership of Annabella and the 13-year-old Dutch-born Gio (Apache x Tango), pictured at Kronenberg CDI, also placed equal fourth, alongside Finland’s Emma Kanerva and Feldrose FRH, in the Grand Prix Special.
Annabella, who won double gold at the 2023 Young Rider European Championships with her mare, Espe, took to social media following the Grand Prix to say, “So lovely to be back in the competition arena with this special boy. A few small errors today because of Pumpkin’s (Gio’s) extra enthusiasm. Looking forward to our ride on Sunday and happy he is feeling so energetic.”
The budding combination of Lily Laughton and the 12-year-old Hulana T (Ampere x Florencio), owned by Alicia Laughton, were best of the Brits in the Young Rider classes. The duo earned 67%+ for 11th place in both the Team and Individual Test, before wrapping up only their fifth competition together with 14th place in the Freestyle. Hermione Tottman and the Lord Loxley-sired Exquisite, owned by Niki Tottman, achieved a top-five place in the Young Rider Team Consolation class with 67.157%.
Sint-Truiden CDI
Earlier this month, Claudia Davis (20) and her impressive KWPN, Fergus RT (Uphill x Ferro), competed in the Young Rider classes at Sint-Truiden CDI3* in Belgium. Claudia piloted the tall black gelding to a new personal best score, just shy of 70%, to land fifth place in the closely contested Team Test. The duo also took fifth place in the Individual Test before concluding their show with eighth in the Freestyle.
“Fergus was a superstar all weekend, two prize-givings and a new personal best score was more than I could have asked from him,” said Claudia, speaking on social media. “Now we are really looking forward to our next show and working on our feedback from this weekend.”
